Samantha Mewis of the USA celebrates following her sides victory in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup France Semi Final match between England and USA at Stade de Lyon on July 02, 2019 in Lyon
Just ask the U.S. women’s soccer national team, whose jerseys are selling like hotcakes online.
Nike’s U.S. women’s national team home shirt, priced at $90, is now the bestselling soccer jersey in a single season, for men or women, on Nike’s website.
Heidi Burgett, senior director for global communications at the sportswear giant, shared the news on Twitter.
Described as “a throwback to the legendary team that won the trophy in 1999 and forever changed the landscape of football in their country,” the white jersey with striped sleeve cuffs also has three stars above the crest, which represent “the team’s world titles and dominance over the years,” according to the product website.
The shirt is also reportedly a nod to living legends and two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup champs Mia Hamm and Julie Foudy.
Nike is the sponsor of 14 of the 24 teams in this summer’s World Cup, including France and England, both of whom the U.S. defeated.
